Just as Toronto would be incomplete without its Korean community, my Korean food experience would be incomplete without Tofu Village. I have never been a frequent eater of Korean cuisine but a couple of my favourite dishes come from Tofu Village. Tofu Village’s Soon Tofu is very tasty (it isn’t called ‘House of Soon Tofu’ for nothing) and they serve generous portions of soon tofu in each order. It arrives at your table bubbling hot and you also get to break a fresh egg into your soup. For those who love tofu and don’t mind not getting much meat, this dish is great. The broth is very tasty and you can choose from three levels of spiciness. The tofu is smooth and soft. The rice comes in a stone pot, complete with the smokey bits at the bottom. Every order comes with four sides of kimchi, beansprouts, potatoes and broccoli. Even the take out comes with the kimchi. And all this will cost you just $6.95*! The restaurant itself is spacious and well lit. The waitresses are friendly and will even teach you some basic Korean if you ask them. In short, Tofu Village is a must try even if you’ve never been a fan of Korean cuisine.
