With just six short weeks of summer bliss remaining before September rears its ugly head, I’ve compiled a list of Vancouver events and activities that are must do’s to get the most out of the coming weeks!

1) The Deighton Cup – Saturday, July 26

One of the classiest events of the summer is almost here! Held at Hastings Racecourse, The Deighton Cup has been called “the most sophisticated and playful event of the summer” by ET Canada. A ticket includes 8 horseraces, cocktails, an interactive lounge, live jazz music and a lunch of southern-style sandwiches and salad. VIP packages are also available. As explained by The Province, this is an event filled with people who “come to see and be seen”—so if you dress to impress, pull out your fanciest couture and head to the racetracks!

2) Outdoor movies at Stanley Park – Every Tuesday, July 8 – Sept. 2

Movie nights have returned to Stanley Park! They’ll be playing everything from Mean Girls to Indiana Jones. As if that doesn’t sound enticing enough, the event is free of charge. Be sure to arrive early so you’re able to find a spot to set up your lawn chairs and blankets, as this event is sure to pull in quite the crowd.

3) Diner En Blanc – Thursday, August 21

This exciting event is a “chic picnic” that originated in France and is now taking place all around the world. Dress in all white and prepare to enjoy a delectable feast. This is an elegant event for all the foodies out there!

4) Celebration of Light Fireworks – July 26, July 30, August 2

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend a summer night, make sure to attend the 2014 Honda Celebration of Light. It is the biggest offshore fireworks competition in the world, and is met with roughly 400,000 attendees per night. This year will be featuring fireworks from the United States, France and Japan.

5) Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival – June through September

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Bard on the Beach. If you’re a fan of Shakespeare, or of theatre in general, then this is the event for you. The festival is being held at the beautiful setting of Vanier Park and is featuring plays such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest.

6) PNE Summer Night Concerts – Nightly from August 17 to September 1

This concert series features great local and international talent. Some of the standout performers include: Joan Jett, Gipsy Kings, Leann Rimes, Three Days Grace and Boys II Men. Taking place outdoors, these concerts will be a great way to enjoy the pleasant August nights.
