AMC, the channel that brought us Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, is set to premiere a new original series called Into the Badlands, starring Daniel Wu. They’ve released an official Comic Con trailer and from the looks of it, the martial arts drama series seems very promising. The show is scheduled to air in November 2015.

According to the series’ official website: “Into the Badlands is a genre-bending martial arts series very loosely based on the classic Chinese tale Journey to the West. In a land controlled by feudal barons, Into the Badlands tells the story of a great warrior and a young boy who embark on a journey across a dangerous land to find enlightenment.”

Daniel Wu plays Sunny, the powerful warrior who sets course on a perilous journey through the badlands. Wu is an Hong Kong American actor, director and producer well renowned in the Chinese-language cinema, with over 60 film titles under his belt. It’s refreshing to see more Asian leads on American network TV. I’m excited to see how the series will unfold.
The creators of the show are Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who also wrote and produced Smallville.  Six hour-long episodes have been developed to be premiered in the fall and if you needed any more of a reason to watch, the series tagline is “There is no god in the badlands”.
